To Port and Polish, That is the Question.
Well to answer that question, yes. Since I was going to pull off the cylinder head to install the new valvetrain, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do a port and polish. On the intake side, I did an intake port match with the stock intake manifold and for the exhaust side I did a polish. There are tons of different approaches to the porting and polishing, but based on my research the most logical method is to apply a port on the intake side and a polish on the exhaust side. This method promotes laminar flow going out of the exhaust valves and by port matching the intake side, we can improve laminar flow from manifold to head while still retaining enough roughness to promote fuel atomization. Again, this is all through theory as I do not have the technology to test intake or exhaust volumetric flow. I guess, we will just have to wait for the dyno results once we get there.
