ROUND UP // Reading Cult Streetwear & Past Thoughts
Resident UK x FL photographer/writer Dan recommended me this awesome book on streetwear. The book by Josh Sims highlights some of the most pivotal brands in streetwear. Brands such as The Hundreds and Nike are detailed within the pages and offer readers a glimpse into how these brands came about.
I was stoked on getting my hands on this book as it truly relates to what we do. Vans, OBEY, The Hundreds, and the others have been in this game for ages, but I’m quite sure these individuals were in our similar shoes. They too faced the obstacles of a start up company and the challenges of breaking into the industry.

I was excited to read about The Hundreds as I share sympathy with their founders. We both come from similar backgrounds through education and experience. I started this company months before I graduated from UC Davis while The Hundreds’ founders Ben and Bobby finished Law school before getting deeper into The Hundreds’ foundation. We both shared education and that willingness to finish what we started.
Aside from The Hundreds, there were tons of neat information on the popular sportwear brands of today. The book explores Puma, Nike, Adidas, Lacoste, and other brands that is ever present within our daily lives. Though it was kind of interesting seeing Lacoste listed as a streetwear brand, I think I could see it, as Lacoste has shared the market of high end customers to streetwear fanatics alike.

I won’t dive too deep into every single aspect of this book, but I highly recommend it, especially for those who are starting a brand. Check it out on Amazon and recommend it to your friends.
