Photo Coverage >> Fatlace Word Up! Season Opener
Well today was a pretty interesting day to say the least. Fatlace hosted a private event called Word Up! to showcase local drifters across the Bay Area. A decent amount of people showed up and of course we were there, rain or shine, to shoot the photo coverage. Let’s just say that the event went pretty smooth and wet. Literally.
The drift/gymkhana course featured a figure 8, donut, sideshow and a whatever the hell you wanna do set up. It was a flexible layout for all types of drivers to run.

As 9:30AM approached, drivers’ meeting began followed by media meeting. Mark and the rest of the staff were in good spirits despite the drizzling weather.

After the mandatory meeting, group one hit the grid and waited for the go signal. As Gio said earlier, the course layout consisted of plenty of twisties. Mark’s plan was to create the spirit of Ebisu here in the Bay Area. And one thing I really enjoyed seeing was that most of the drivers were actually fitted. A great example of form and function in union.

After an hour of drifting, that’s when the rain started to get really nasty. Which reminds me that I need to invest in a camera sleeve. You’d think I’d learn my lesson from photo shooting Redline Time Attack a couple weeks back.

So we’re drenched and I’m so close to pulling out my red poncho. Unfortunately the poncho I bought the day before wasn’t all that since it really was just a red trash bag. epic fail. From the encouragement of Gio and Andrew Bohan from OMGDrift, I didn’t rock the red poncho..it was..for better terms..a swag killer. haha.

I never knew an AE86 on Work Meisters would flow so well until I saw this guy. Seriously man, legit setup! Plus he was one of the best drifters running that day.

Also, it was nice to see plenty of Toyota classics running this event. From hachis all the way to swinging Cressidas, nostalgia drifting is any cure for miserable weather conditions.

And of course, any drift event wouldn’t be complete without a strong drift support by Nissan enthusiast.

Aside from the regulars, a notable Hyundai Genesis was out there being used the right way. Slip sliding sideways and killing it on the track.

So here we are at the end of the drift coverage, some of you are probably replying MOAR pics! No worries, we have more photos from the event which will be posted on my Flickr. And wait, isn’t that Yuta Akaishi 240z I spot!? You bet it is. Here’s a little teaser pic for an upcoming post featuring the original Heartbreaker.
